Gerry Rihs is fascinated by modernism, aerodynamics, space and light, the future of architecture and its place in society. He launched his own practice, Rihs Architects, in 1979 and now heads up a diversified team committed to the delivery of contemporary, high-quality buildings.
Rihs has a strong belief that the future of architecture will be substantially dependant on the architectural profession's ability to adapt and respond to the rapidly changing demands of building owners and stakeholders. New ideas do not come easily, quickly or cheaply. "The biggest barrier to change is vision lock", to quote James Taylor Ph.D, Futurist.
In order to participate and respond to these changes, Rihs Architects will combine the pursuit of good design and building knowledge in service to its clients. As change is about changing the meaning of value, Rihs will provide ideas and designs, which exceed the expectations of his clients. He would like them to be astonished and, to refer to Louis Kahn, produce architecture which produces a "sense of wonder".
